The Detroit Pistons’ star guard, Allen Iverson, has been reportedly banned from two local casinos for disruptive and rude behavior.
Phil Ivey is no stranger to the concept given his well-documented years of gambling at the highest stakes, but his recent Double or Nothing challenge against NBA legend Allen Iverson was far removed from his casino adventures!Ivey?s poker and Iverson?s hoop exploits were swapped for beer pong, building houses of cards and racing pedal trikes as the Hall of Famers in their respective games. On December 9, 2005, fresh off a victory over the Charlotte Bobcats, Allen Iverson paid a visit to the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. His luck continued there, as not only did he win big at three-card stud poker, but he was overpaid $10,000 in chips by a dealer.
According to The Detroit News, the 33-year-old NBA star is regular at the MGM and Greektown casinos since arriving in town after a trade from the Denver Nuggets, and a recent disturbance has resulted in the NBA star being banned.

The league is said to be looking into a disturbance at Greektown that involved one of Iverson’s bodyguards. Iverson’s role was unclear at press time, but his bodyguard was involved in some sort of altercation, resulting in the player’s ban.
However, the report says that Iverson was banned mostly for “his boorish behavior.” He is a bad loser, who often throws his chips or cards at the dealer upon losing, and has been warned on multiple occasions.
The paper said Iverson “is often loud and disruptive, according to witnesses, rude to dealers, other players and the wait staff.”
Iverson is said to have a long history of gambling, and often made treks to Atlantic City while played for the Philadelphia 76ers.
He reportedly caused a disturbance at a casino outside Minneapolis earlier this season.
In December 2005, Iverson got into an argument with a dealer at the Trump Taj Mahal casino after the dealer overpaid him $10,000 on a bet he made while playing three-card stud poker. He initially refused to give the chips back, but did so later and received a gaming voucher in that amount from the Taj.
Before that, in February 2004, Iverson urinated into a trashcan at Bally’s on the casino floor, shocking nearby patrons. On several trips to Philadelphia, Iverson and his friends returned to the Taj Mahal, his Atlantic City spot of choice.
Australian sportsbook PointsBet has just released a brand-new advertising campaign in preparation for its imminent New Jersey launch. The campaign prominently features NBA Hall-of-Famer Allen “The Answer” Iverson in a series of commercials to announce the book’s arrival.
PointsBet CEO Johnny Aitken told SBC News:
“We’re over-the-moon to work with an athlete of Allen’s calibre. When people think of AI, they think of a renegade and cultural phenomenon that was known for his flash and style on and off the court. For those reasons, we saw the partnership with Al as a perfect fit to represent the PointsBet brand.”
Iverson is certainly an interesting choice for a nascent sportsbook to choose as its representative. Iverson’s tenure in the NBA was notable for both its brilliance and its urbanization of the NBA’s product.
Concurrent with the campaign, PointsBet also released the first of its promotions. Prior to the sportsbook’s official launch in November at partner site Meadowlands Racetrack, bettors will be able to participate in a free-to-enter sweepstakes competition.
The competition will consist of picking NBA teams that are playoff-bound. The successful selection of all 16 teams (eight in both conferences) could be worth as much as $1 million to a lucky New Jersey resident.

Within that difference lies Points Betting. On top of your traditional bet, each point toward the direction you bet would serve as a multiplier for your bet. So, if your team beats the spread by five points, you might see your payout multiply by five.
Unfortunately, the door swings both ways. If you happen to lose your bet, a multiplier effect occurs on your losses, too.
The result is a game that can both bring massive rewards but also incredible risks of loss to the player base. Still, the system is unique among the offerings in New Jersey–most other books offer limited or no option for a payout multiplier.

Of course, the campaign with Iverson is not the first time a New Jersey sportsbook has used an NBA great as its spokesperson. DraftKings famously released a series of its “Dr. AftKings” commercials that featured Hall-of-Famer Charles Barkley.

Given that DraftKings has been the biggest success story of any of the online sportsbooks, perhaps PointsBet is wise to use another figure who is similarly famous. Then again, Iverson is not Barkley, either in terms of appearance or personality. So, we’ll have to see if it works.
