They may have kept a bit quiet about it, but the opening of the new poker room at the City of Dreams in the Filipino capital, Manila, was certainly no secret.

The new PokerStars poker room is its second to operate under the City of Dreams brand. The other one it situated in Macau and has become one of that area’s centers of poker over the last few years.

PokerStars director of Live Operations for the Asia-Pacific Danny McDonaugh said that he believed the new Manila poker room would be as successful as the one in Macau. The latest PokerStars poker room opening is the latest in major international alliances forged by City of Dreams, which has also solicited services from Pangaea luxe lounge and Japanese fine dining restaurant chain Nobu.
PokerStars are likely to be hoping that the opening of its new room at the City of Dream capitalises on the large and growing poker market in Manila and the Philippine at large. The east Asian country has played host to a number of major poker events over the last few years, including the APPT Manila, the APT Philippines and the WPT National Philippines, just to name a few.
The Main Events of all of the three previously mentioned events have been reasonably popular. The Main Events that were held in 2014 attracted between 238 and 385 players, many of which were professional players from around Asia.
Given the fact that the Philippines has been able to attract the best poker players in Asia to its games and tournaments, the new poker room at the City of Dreams Manila may literally pay off for PokerStars in the future.
